Lois Ann Colaianni, retiring Associate Director, Library Operations, NLM, is responsible for the bibliographic arm of the world's largest medical library. Some of her awards and honors: Marcia C. Noyes Award, 1995; Fellow, MLA, 1994; Award of Honor, EAHIL, 1995; UCLA Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences, First Distinguished Alumnus Award, 1992. She will look back on her years with NLM and share her wisdom, wit, and perspective.

To help, the Pacific Southwest Regional Medical Library is pleased to present this one day symposium as part of the 1999 Joint Meeting. We will bring together a group of individuals who will address some of the key issues facing health sciences librarians, from a variety of perspectives.

This course will cover a brief history of the use of herbs as therapeutic agents, a look at the more commonly used herbal therapies today, basic guidelines for finding and evaluating herbal literature, and reliable sources of information.

This is an introductory class on the major principles of effective electronic presentation, design, layout and their practical applications. Attendees will learn how to create a slide show during the class by using the basics of using Microsoft PowerPoint®. Specific topics include slide creation/editing, presentation options, and basic animation, graphics, and data.

This course reviews the development of nursing and its literature, assessment of nursing information needs, nursing information resources in all formats, and the planning and evaluation of library services for nurses and the multidisciplinary health care team. The course features database searching for questions related to nursing and multidisciplinary patient care, including allied health and patient education resources. It will also feature nursing resources for evidenced based health care.
